With such great prices on many magazines, many people wonder, "What's the catch?" For most of the stores we track, there is no catch whatsoever. For others, there may be minor catches that we'll make you aware of so you can make an informed decision. Some subscriptions are subsidized by sponsor contributions. Some automatically renew. Some stores have an order surcharge. If the store with the best price has a catch, we recommend that you view the entire Price Grid and weigh the catch against the savings.

What are Sponsored Subscriptions?
Some stores have magazine subscriptions that are partially subsidized by sponsor subscriptions. The sponsor pays a portion of the subscription price and you agree to receive a reasonable number of emails from the sponsor. One way around this is to use a "disposable" email address (rather than your primary one) with these stores.

Why do some magazines automatically renew?
The publishers offer better pricing to stores who sell subscriptions that automatically renew, and they often pass that savings on to you. These stores typically send out renewal notices at least a month before the renewal and give you an opportunity to cancel. Another way to avoid the possibility of being charged for an automatic renewal is to use a one-time use credit card.

What about order surcharges?
A few stores have order surcharges. We've added those order surcharge amounts to their prices so you can compare apples to apples. The price you see here is the price you will pay. If you find any discrepancies, please let us know.

Keep in mind that most stores have no catches whatsoever. For those that do, we clearly explain what catches you will encounter, and for most people those catches are not a major deal.
